Scottish Trees

Scottish TreesScottish Trees  followed a trip to Scotland to visit my fabulous friend from school, whom I hadn’tseen for over twenty years.  Such a special time to be with you and meet your whole family.

The trees are long standing and bring us together after so long.  Felt like I saw you only yesterday!

Enchanted

EnchantedEnchanted is a magical place that may only exist for the moment you see it.  Have you ever been walking in the woods and spot a truly enchanting space? – yet when you go back to look for it to show someone……….it has vanished!  It was only meant for you, at that particular time.

Working Together

Working TogetherWorking Together shows a mist that is clearing slowly as therapy was well underway.  Colours were appearing from having been in the depths of destruction for a couple of years.  I owe this one to my therapist, whose patience and strength have seen me through…..don’t know how she hasn’t throttled me yet!!

In Spirit

In SpiritIn Spirit is a soft mixture of clouds as they float and melt into one another.  Their presence is steady though ever changing, representing the impermanence of all conditioned objects and all living beings.  However, there is an everlasting quality which symbolises our spirit after it has experienced human occupancy,  and makes it’s inbound journey back home to the universe.

Rapture

RaptureRapture led me out of the often occurring frustrations which happen when a painting comes to a seemingly dead end.  No amount of pondering will take you to the next stage – you either ‘step away’ from the painting or persevere – usually both, in that order!  The painting then calls you back when it is ready, and literally shows you which brushstroke goes where.

Volcano

VolcanoVolcano is part of the Bournemouth Series 1999, and played it’s part in my degree show at Southampton Solent University.  The volcanic-like appearance flows with the dark waves of the ocean, along with the absorption of visiting this place in the early hours of the morning.

Night Sea

Night SeaNight Sea was conceived on Bournemouth beach at around midnight in 1999, and posed as one of the pieces in my degree show.  A preliminary canvas was subject to the magical atmosphere that only the ocean at night can provide.  This final piece was created once back in the studio at university.

Rimini Heat

Rimini HeatRimini Heat holds the breath-taking landscape of the Italian countryside and is the fourth painting in the Rimini Series.  A very happy space to be in physically and mentally.  This months journey around Italy was a contemplative spiritual convalescence.

Fantasy Land

Sunny MomentsFantasy Land is the third painting of the Rimini Series and was conceived while travelling on the train from Milano to Rimini.  The heat was easy to absorb as this part of Italy was having an unusually extra hot summer that year, as temperatures soared into the forties (just the way I like it!).

Modelling paste and glass beads are the texture which gives this painting a tactile finish.

Cosy Cream

Brighter DaysCosy Cream was inspired by the top of a hot chocolate I had ordered in a restaurant.  The froth which had mixed with the chocolate was almost too perfect to disturb.  The milk had eased into the froth, blending shades of umber and hazel, spreading into tasty creams, fawns and schlor lor lur luurrrr!!! Delicious!  I had wanted to stare at it forever with my hands wrapped around this warm little cup of cosiness.

Trying to remember

Trying to RememberOften, when I look across a landscape, or through a woodland, or rolling hills or the sky at night, I get a feeling that I am looking at something of which I am trying to remember; as though I have seen it before somewhere somehow.  I can’t quite remember what it is that I’m remembering!  Until recently, I never knew, though now I have come to know, that I am looking beyond the recognition of the landscape, and am entering the place of energy  – beyond form and identity.

Knowing

KnowingIf you have ever meditated with Buddhist monks or nuns, they will tell you that the niggle which occurs sometimes in practice, or the persistent annoying thoughts are not to be forced to disappear.  It needs no action.  It requires no desire to change.  Note it and let it go.   Everything passes.  And this is Knowing.

Medieval Blue

Medieval BlueMedieval Blue is one of those art works where the universe gave a contribution in the form of a ghostlike figure in the top right hand corner which appears to be looking or sweeping down over what’s below.  I hadn’t noticed this until a friend pointed it out!  Presents from the universe come every so often in my artwork (as well as every day life)  to which I feel very grateful for as it brings my awareness to the present moment, aligning my inner and outer purpose.
